Shopify Plan Selector Guidance (US)

The Plan Selector estimates monthly Shopify costs for Basic, Grow and Advanced based on your sales mix. Enter online/pos revenue, AOV, and operational needs to see which plan is cheapest.

What the calculator considers

  • Subscription by plan (monthly or yearly billing)
  • Online card fees via Shopify Payments (example snapshot: Basic ~2.9% + $0.30; higher plans have lower %). Verify current rates.
  • Third‑party gateway add‑on on the share not processed by Shopify Payments
  • POS fees for in‑store revenue
  • Eligibility: staff accounts, inventory locations, and B2B/Wholesale needs

Inputs that matter most

  • Monthly online revenue and Share via Shopify Payments (vs external gateways)
  • Average order value (AOV) – required to model per‑order fees accurately
  • Staff accounts, Inventory locations, and whether you need B2B
  • Billing preference – monthly vs yearly (yearly typically discounts subscription)

How we decide the recommended plan

We total Subscription + Online card fees + Third‑party add‑on + POS fees for each plan, apply eligibility, and highlight the lowest total among eligible plans. We also show an indicative upgrade threshold (online turnover where moving up would be cheaper at your mix and AOV).

Assumptions & notes (US)

  • Rates change; confirm on Shopify pricing (US).
  • Sales tax is excluded; the calculator models plan and processing costs only.
  • Per‑order fees depend on AOV; try a few scenarios if you have wide AOV variance.

Tips

  • Try different Shopify Payments shares if you also use PayPal/other gateways.
  • Check eligibility first (staff/locations/B2B) so you only compare feasible plans.
  • Re‑test with seasonal AOV shifts (e.g., holiday bundles vs off‑season).

FAQ

Does the tool include app costs or shipping labels?

No – it focuses on Shopify plan and payment processing costs. Add other operating costs separately.

Why does AOV matter?

Card fees include a per‑order component; AOV lets us estimate order count from revenue to model per‑order fees accurately.
